Alan: Lorraine Bracco was tremendous in GoodFellas, awful in Medicine Man and pretty good on The Sopranos. That's balance. It's always a pleasure to hear you chime in on my site.

Jim: Putting Lorraine Bracco in the Amazon made about as much sense as putting Kevin Costner in tights for Robin Hood, but, even Robin Hood wasn't annoying. Bracco played lots of different angles in GoodFellas but take her out of that setting and she just does not fit. Thanks for commenting!

Peel: Very good summarization of this flick. I also recall deleted scenes appearing in the trailer for this as well, including a standoff Pacino has with a guy who ends up being a bodyguard picking up his client's kid at school. The producers wanted to cut the brooding cop stuff and get to Ellen Barkin quicker, and I can't say I blame them. And yes, Sam Jackson was young and balding and skinny and excellent, long before he was shouting "motherfucker" and shit.

I love this movie. That doesn't mean I'm saying I think it's a great movie, but I do love it, mostly because of Pacino and Barkin. She was never sexier than she is here. And for a film mostly shot in Canada it actually succeeds in having pretty good New York atmosphere.

For the record, the Lorraine Bracco scenes appeared in the network TV version but aren't on the DVD. And don't forget about Samuel L. Jackson's early apperarance.

I really need to see this film again, it's been too long, thanks for the reminder.

I remember seeing MEDICINE MAN and thinking "Is it just me or is Bracco terrible in this"? Most of the reviews gave her a pass in it.

SEA OF LOVE is a good one. Haven't seen it in years though.

I've always loved this movie, and it's a delightful treat every so often when I come across it in my modest movie library and pop it in once more. Pacino's great, Barkin was never better after this and - at least on first viewing - I never saw the ending coming. Terrific movie!

And now thanks to your anecdotal post, I can further appreciate SOL because they cut Lorraine Bracco out of it. Win-win!
