This film is acyaully one of my favourites, and was one that i couldn't stop thinking about for weeks. I have actually decidied to write my dissertation on it, looking through a feminist lense and the text as an adaptation. I think my dis will be the most unusual in my English Lit. class! Thanks for the information posted to get me started on my research!

This is such a great "unromantic" movie. Nice insight on this one, Joe.

Jorge: Secretary is funny, intentionally funny, which I think is what separates it from the soft-core porn and the Zalman Kings of the cable world. Thanks for commenting.

Rachel: I understand, this movie just isn't for everyone. You should give it a try though; it's a lot of fun and is about the furthest thing from Michelangelo Antonioni or Ingmar Bergman or a film that's a struggle to watch. Plus, I would love to see you review it on your site.

Jeremy: Maggie Gyllenhaal is establishing herself as a prestige actress like Jane Fonda and Faye Dunaway were in the 1970s. There's not as much money working in independent film, but Hollywood pays attention eventually and I'm glad Gyllenhaal hasn't made a Tomb Raider yet. Thanks for commenting!

Daniel: That's what I'm here for, man, to remind the world about movies we're too distracted to otherwise notice. Secretary is on my long list of favorite movies of the '00s.

AR: I agree. Secretary defies convention in so many great ways. I love the last shot, which just rests of Gyllenhaal's face for several moments, leaving it up to the audience to decide what this character is thinking and where she's going next.

I really like this movie. In the end, it definitely follows the tropes of your typical romantic comedy, but the spin it puts on the form coupled with the story of this girl's self discovery (and the man, as well) makes it so interesting and unique.

I really need to revisit this one. I saw it once and was marginally interested, but I think I was distracted and didn't give it much of a chance. I'm sure it continues to be better than a lot of the romantic comedies that are released.

Ah Maggie! God, I love this woman...this is a really special film by my estimation and I am still floored she was ignored by the Academy that year...not even a nomination.

This one has bounced in and out of my Netflix for quite some time. In fact, I'm not sure if it's there now or not. I don't know why I can't just sit down and watch it...maybe it's because I'm a secretary ("assistant").
