We thrill with each ride, remembering our own, and we compare the characters to the guys we knew who were just like them. For us, Milius just gets it. I thought William Katt gave a great performance as he transitioned from the one of the guys to a Vietnam vet. The movie captures a place and time a lot of people remember with great fondness and incredible nostalgia. Anyone who grew up during this magic time in surfing history loves this movie. This is a pretty good DVD of a great film, but if you're a Milius fan, I highly recommend the commentary he does with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the <em>Conan the Barbarian</em> DVD. Christian: Thanks for commenting. Iconic import. There was a lot of that going on in the '70s. Look at <em>Two-Lane Blacktop</em>. Those guys seemed to relate everything in life to their '55 Chevy. Plenty of people didn't like that movie either and I can understand why this one might seem silly. My disbelief was suitably suspended. The end is so layered in iconic import that I can't help but laugh and think, "dude, you're surfers!"
